Total Redact overview

Total Redact is a privacy tool for finding and redacting sensitive information in documents. It runs locally on your Mac, so files are not uploaded to a cloud service and no account is required.

Features
  • Redacts sensitive data in live text and text-based files, including PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, CSV files, plain text, HTML, and email files.
  • Detects names, addresses, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and credit card numbers.
  • Includes a personal watchlist for values you always want caught.
  • Stores the watchlist locally, encrypted with a key kept in the macOS Keychain.
  • Shows detections for review before export, so you can approve, skip, or edit replacements.
  • Includes a quick-paste mode for cleaning text before sharing it in chats, tickets, forms, or AI prompts.
  • Performs true PDF redaction for supported text-based PDFs, removing content rather than only drawing a black box over it.
  • Runs offline after installation, with no telemetry, no account, and no network access required.

Note: Image redaction is not supported.

What's new in version 1.2.1

  • PDF redactions now preserve the source font size.
